The Muchelenje Development Project is a grassroots project to aid the Muchelenje Middle/ Basic School in the rural village of Kalonje in northern Zambia.

The project came about as a result of an unplanned stay in the village during independent travel in January, ‘08. The kindnesses extended to us by those who have so little captured our hearts, and after experiencing the conditions of the village and school, the MDP was born.

The project’s goals are four part:
- Provide basic school, educational, communication, and health supplies
- Establish exchanges - educational, artistic, cultural, and religious with schools,
churches, and organizations
-Address school infrastructure, sanitation, and health concerns
- Cultivate training and entrepreneurial projects to establish a degree of
self reliance and sustainment

As of February, ‘09, we have sent over two dozen parcels of much needed supplies, established an accountable project committee in Kalonje, and are poised to begin our first improvement projects this summer; replacing the school block roof, and addressing sanitation and water conditions.

In the grassroots spirit, the project is sustained through volunteerism, and 100% of all donations and contributions go directly to aid the Muchelenje School and the village of Kalonje.

Our hope is those interested in helping the Muchelenje Development project can pool their resources, whether they be monetary, donations of equipment and supplies, fostering contacts and exchanges, or hosting fundraising events.

We look forward to sharing our successes, and with your help, we can make a difference.

Thank you for your support,
Santi Mukwai
